Lovely Turkish yarn at Kürkçü Han

Tucked away behind the Istanbul Big Bazaar, behind a busy street full of enormous and colourful bridal shops is the Kürkçü Han: the Han (shop area) of fur traders, fabric and yarn stores. Yes... YARN!

I blogged about this area just before we went to Istanbul and I was determined to find it and take a look around. The Big Bazaar and the area around it is a maze of little streets and squares literally packed with little shops, full with negotiating Turks and tourists. It's mad! But I didn't give up and found it!

Busy isn't it? And there in the background, on the first floor is the Nako store. Nako is a very famous brand of beautiful Turkish yarn. It was so great!

Can you imagine me getting lost here? I bet you can! All those yarn and fabric shops. Just lush. Totally lost the boyfriend halfway! Thank heaven he was kind enough to take pictures of the madness around him!

And do you remember me telling you that I couldn't possibly find room in my backpack to take home yarn? Well... I found the space! Don't ask me how, but I took back this gorgeous yarn. All from Nako! Some cotton, some bamboo and lots of soft acrylic yarn. Pretty colours!

They sold packages with little balls of yarn, they are only 10 grams (36 meters) and I loved the glittery yarn. Already started hooking some granny squares for Kyōyū kyōyū - share with it, so great!

~Now, what to make with all this glorious yarn?~

  3. No doubt you had a lovely time in Istanbul. We have only been there once for a brief visit during a layover. Would like to make it back there for a longer visit. I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes to another country and looks for craft shops and yarn. :) There is a Kuwaiti guy here who imports yarn from Turkey and I have bought many bamboo and such yarns from him. Have fun creating! Best wishes, Tammy
