Blissful Sunday: make your own rocky road

A while a go we talked about giving handmade gifts on here. About how some people just cannot appreciate handmade gifts, at all. It doesn't matter how expensive the supplies were or how many hours you put into it or how much better your gift looks than items from the store. There is nothing more upsetting than the comment 'Ohh... you made it yourself'. Luckily, the friend I made this for absolutely loves handmade gifts and really appreciates the time and effort you put into the gift (so does her mum, I learned recenty, she cheers on my handmade items from a distance. How cool is that).

Rocky road recipe

500 gram melkchocolade
100 gram pure chocolade
150 gram marshmallows, in vieren gesneden
90 gram gebroken biscuitjes of fijngehakte nootjes
Eventueel: 45 gram gedroogd fruit, zoals cranberry's, rozijnen of Turks fruit.

Kersen drogen is heel gemakkelijk.

I made rocky road for my friend. She's been my rock over the last few years when life wasn't always easy. And I guess because the road of life can be quite rocky, rocky road seemed like the perfect (and yummy) gift. Rocky road is Australian and basically it's mashmallows and crunchy goodness covered in chocolate.

It's really easy to make.

The recipe!
You'll be needing:
500 grams of milk chocolate
100 grams of dark chocolate
150 grams of mini marshmallows or big marshmallows chopped up
90 grams of crushed plain biscuites or chopped nuts

If you like: 45 grams of dried fruit, like raisins or cranberries.

I had fresh cherries laying around. So I decided to dry them and use them in the rocky road. Drying cherries is easy. You take out the pits, cut the cherries into quarters and put them on some kitchen towel on a backing sheet. Put your oven on 50C and dry the cherries on that temperature for about 4-5 hours.

Line a 11x22 cm cake tin with some plastic foil or aluminum foil.

Melt the chocolate using a double boiler until it's all melted and smooth. Put a third of the chocolate on the bottom of the cake thin and smoothe it. Sprinkel that chocolate with a good layer of your marshmallows, biscuits and fruit. Put another third of the chocolate on top of that and smooth it again. Top that with another big layer of sweet goodies and to finish, top it all with the chocolate you have left. Smooth it all nicely.

Now put your cake tin in the fridge and keep it there for at least 8 hours. I left mine over night. When the chocolate is all set, you can take ot out of the tin. Chop the chocolate into chunks, not too big and not too small. Put the chunks into and nice tin or jar and... go munch on our rocky road! It's best to keep the rocky road in the fridge.

That was easy, wasn't it? This was the present I gave my friend. Don't you just love maison jars? I adore them. And I am so pleased to see that these days you can seem to buy them everywhere, very heart warming. I mean, for the last 20 years maison jars were considered so outdated you would only come across one of you'd inherit one from your nan. But not anymore. This maison jar is brand new.

Stom he? Moet in jurk ;-) liefs
