An old love renewed: clasp clutches
zaterdag 12 november 2016
Lately, I have really been neglectig my sewing machine. Long work hours and great new shows on Netflix (I am so addicted to The Last Kingdom, have you seen it?) make me want to plonk down on the couch while I crochet away, instead of getting the good ol' sewing machine out. But everytime I do, I think: oh, I forgot how much I love to sew and create pretty things from funky fabric. So, hopefully I will sew some more the next couple of months. And I think these clasp clutches are a perfect spark to get me started again.

My brand new weekender bag
vrijdag 8 april 2016
Two weeks ago, my uncle of 83 years of age and myself, set off to visit Oudenaarde in the Flanders. We're both great cycling fans and decided to visit the Museum of the Tour of Flanders together. Because he lives just across the boarder in Belgium and my parents on the other side in The Netherlands, I decdied to have a sleepover before picking up my uncle early in the morning. And that's when I found out that I didn't have a decent weekender bag. So I got to my parents with my belongings in a grocery bag. I hung my head in shame, while I thought of all the yards of unused fabric in my closet.

Funky fold over bag
maandag 1 december 2014
Finally, finally I had the time to do some sewing again. When I am short of time, mostly I crochet. It's easier somehow. You can just do it while sitting on the couch and watching a show or a movie. When you want to do some sewing, more time and space is needed. I was so happy to get my sewing machine out yesterday. It's strange how you can miss certain things.
The project I worked on was so much fun: a present for a friend. I decided to make her a fold over bag, like the one I recently made for myself.
Thanx to your great advice (thank you!) there was no drama this time when putting in the zipper (Ha, I guess I am learning). I made the bag in a heart beat really. The most time was spent on cutting and ironing all the pieces. Since I lined the bag in blue cotton I thought it'd be fun to have a blue accent too on the outside. So Idecided blue cotton for the loops.

The DIY Gift Guide: 9 ideas!
woensdag 26 november 2014
At this moment my life consists of the following: commuting to client, working for client all day, commuting back home, demolition of our bathroom and toilet because of renovation. I really try and keep up with some crochet or sewing, but there isn't a lot of time to play, to be honest. However, I am working on a Christmas present for someone and it made me think: giving something you made yourself is just the best and with all these great tutorials online and patterns on Etsy, giving something handmade is just so easy. These are my favorite DIY gifts.
This is one for the speedy crocheters: this wonderful crochet pillow. It's such a pretty thing to give, right? The pattern is great to have as well, 'cause you can also use it yourself to make a pretty blanket or something from these squares. The crochet pattern is by Color 'n Cream.
A lovely and fast project, and so great as a present. This pyramid shawl, by Vicarno. You can either crochet it using DK yarn and hook 4 mm or use more bulky yarn and use hook 5.5 mm.
Who doesn't have an iPad or a tablet these days? I take mine everywhere these days and am so happy to have it with me during my train commute. Twitter a little, like pics on Instagram, read an e-book. So I know, like no other, that a sleeve is a must. Otherwise half my lunch would end up in my tablet! Make someone a tablet sleeve! This tutorial is one of these easiest ones around and guarantees a cute and pretty result.
This is one of my favorite tote bag pattern, that I have yet to try out. The 241 tote by Noodlehead just looks so cute. It's so happy looking and also very practicle. It's just an afternoon of sewing and you'll have a fantastic present.
The holidays are the perfect excuse to dress up and when you're looking all fancy you don't want to haul along your every day tote. You need something pretty! The solution: a pretty clutch. This clutch can be used two ways: with or without the strap. Nifty ánd a lovely present.
Super, toch?
Eatable presents are such a winner I think. With just a few ingredients you can make the bast stuff. For example the 'shake and bake' Sweet Verbena made. Simple cookies, covered in chocolate and other goodies in a lovely jar.

Crochet hexagon table runner

Do you have a sad looking side table? You need a doily! Like your gran used to have, but of course a version 2.0 made with brightly colored crochet hexagons. Isn't it pretty? Just crochet some hexagons, sew them together and make a nice edge. Check out how to make one.
Flower in square pillow

Rocky road

Rocky road is chocolate with marsh mellows, biscuits and dried fruit (or whatever you like really) and it's really easy to make. Doesn't it look like a lovely colorful gift? Check the tutorial out!
Mini rosemary and olive bread rolls

No sweet tooth? Don't worry, there are enough savory things you can make to give someone... or maybe just to bake for yourself? Recently I stumbled upton tiny baking tins and was wondering what one could do with that. Make mini bread rolls, that's what! Like the rosemary olive rolls by Pinecone Camp. You can wrap them in a paper bag and add a pretty card or swaddle them in a retro tea towel.
Welke cadeautjes maken jullie graag?

My new fold over bag
donderdag 25 september 2014
Were you paying proper attention in my last post? If so, you may have seen it pop up somewhere in the pictures. 'Cause I wasn't making fun when I told you my new Orla Kiely shoes inspired me to wear some more bold things. And I really believe a new bag is a part of that.
Normally I carry a large black leather shoulder bag that is able to carry my entire life. My phone, day planner, note book, magazines, tablet, a book and a camera. Oh, and my wallet of course! But I really didn't think the big black leather beast would match this outfit well. Seriously, it just wasn't Orla enough! So I took a proper look into my fabric collection. I always have some brown canvas laying around and I combined that with a retro fabric that I have had a crush on since buying it. I once used it to make a pleated tote bag, but now it was time for a fun bag for me.
Ik ging voor een fold over tas. Eigenlijk heel simpel.
I decided to make myself a foldover bag. It's simple really. It closes with a zipper and inside there's a pocket with a zipper too, to put stuff. I like that. It's possible to use the bag in two ways, but I like it best if I fold the brown side over the retro fabric. Nice and happy looking. Oh, and by the by. If you guys know a good tutorial for putting a zip in a bag, please don't hesitate to tell me. I mean, I did it... in the end, but I feel it just took me too long to get it right. I should be able to do this better and quicker.
What do you think? Do you like how it worked out? Do you think it's worth it to make again?

dinsdag 18 februari 2014The cat is out of the hat: a pleated messenger bag
zondag 9 februari 2014
I had this bag laying around for a while: finished and photographed. But I couldn't let the cat out of the hat just yet. 'Cause the recipient of this bag reads my blog sometimes ánd this bag was part of a big and special surprise conspiracy, which took us all the way to England.
A friend of mine turned 50 and celebrations were in order. Her husband started planning her surprise party back in October and invited us too. It took a little more planning because we had to fly to England for the big surprise. But we worked it out. Keeping the cat inside the hat, keeping the secret about the party, was the biggest hurdle. Especially since we saw our friend in Constance over Christmas. She kept telling us how much she hoped to see us again soon. And we just secretly sniggered: she had no idea how soon she would see us again!
For this bag I used the pleated messenger bag pattern, but I made a bit of an adjustment. 'Cause I made this messenger with a recessed zipper. My first recessed zipper bag! I don't know if you recognise this, but for some reason I got myself conviced that I wouldn't be able to do this. It would be too hard, it would turn our crappy, I would suck etc... So I kept postponing until I had no other choice but to give myself an enormous boot up the behind. And guess what: I did it! And it looks quite right. Okay, it wasn't too easy (me and zips are not friends) but it certainly wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. And even though I see room for improvement, I do think it went smoothly enough and now I just wonder: what was all the fuss about?
I used Joel Dewberry fabric (I have no idea where I bought it, hehe). The zipper, lining and notions were bought at the Utrecht fabric market.
And the surprise? Yeah, it was a huge surprise! However, I think that maybe we had even more fun about this whole party than the birthday girl herself because all the fun and laughs we had over planning this surprise ánd because we get to spend time with our friends in England again.

Give Away week!! Day #1
maandag 9 december 2013
This Give Away is now closed...
Welcome welcome everyone! Welcome to the BEST on my blog this year! Are you all set for the holidays? Well, if you hang around here all week, your holidays may get even better. Why? I'll tell you. This week, I have some fantastic Give Aways planned. Three (!!) in total. And they are not just Give Aways, they are amazing, silly, spoil-yourself-rotten Give Aways. So you better read on!

Lets get this Give Away show on the road! Lets see what I got in store for you today. Lots and lots, I promise.
This is Give Away Day ONE!
Entering this Give Away you will win this really great denim and cotton cross body tote. It's nice and strong and perfect to carry all year long. This tote loves the beach, but it also loves shopping for Christmas presents.
And talking about Christmas present. You won't only win this bag. This bag is completely STUFFED with lovely goodies. Wanna know what's in the bag? Well check it out, it's a crafters delight...

Isn't this all super amazing? Lucky for me I have some amazing sponsors who were kind enough to fill my tome bag with lovely goodies. Let me introduce them to you:
Buba B Elizabeth is the owner of Buba B. If you are looking for retro baby and kids items or something funky and retro for yourself? Buba B is the place to take a look. Elizabeth is crazy about retro and vintage fabrics and (great minds think alike) loves bags and clutches. A woman to my own heart, hop on over and take a look at her shop!
Elle Bee Funky designs made of wool felt, that's Elle Bee for you! She's sponsoring an amazing DIY parcel filled with felt flowers, which will liven up every dress or bag. And that cloud clip, isn't that just the cutest?
Vicarno's Mama I've know Annelies from Vicarno's for quite some time now. She sells amazing Dutch and English crochet patterns for kids and adults on Etsy and in her own webshop she sells really beautiful yarns as well. For this Give Away she's offering not only the pattern to crochet gorgious leg warmers, but also the yarn and crochet hook to make them!
Stip & Bloem Wendy from Stip & Bloem almost immediately jumped to the opportunity to sponsor this Give Away. She has put together an amazing parcel filled with lovely DIY items, like tags, bakers twine and so, so much more.
Halsoverkop.nl For those of you who've been following me, they'll recognise the name of this shop. You've even seen me frolicking around in one of the dresses from Halsoverkop! So I am so incredibly pleased that Greetje from Halsoverkop is offering a DIY parcel for this Give Away: filled with 1 yard of knit fabrics that she designed herself, including some really cute retro ribbons. You can make a skirt for yourself with this parcel or a dress or shirt for your kiddie!
