Merry Christmas (and a free printable)

Komen jullie net van het kerstontbijt? Nu al helemaal vol gepropt? Misschien al een beetje dronken van de champagne bij het kerstontbijt? Nou, ik hoop het! Mijn tip: vanmiddag even lekker op de bank en naar The Sound of Music, Sissy of en andere 'vergeten glorie' film of serie kijken (zelf heb ik mijn oog laten vallen op North & South met Patrick Swayze, ooooh!). Of download gratis het kerstnummer van Robin Magazine en ga aan de slag met één van de vele leuke DIY's en tutorials die je erin kunt vinden.

A Robin Magazine Christmas surprise

Inmiddels wordt er alweer druk gewerkt aan het tweede nummer van Robin Magazine. Het nieuwe thema wordt: papier. Laat je fantasie maar de vrije loop! We zijn al erg druk met artikelen, leuke DIY's en de opmaak. Begin april ligt het nieuwe nummer in de winkels. Heel spannend allemaal. Maar ja, begin april... dat duurt nog wel heel lang. Dus bedacht Marjolein vorige week dat we best een mini-kerstnummer zouden kunnen maken. Helemaal mee eens! Dus vorige week hebben we ons even héél druk gemaakt. En het is gelukt.

At the moment we're working quite hard on the 2nd issue of Robin Magazine. The theme of the second issue will be: paper. I'll let you fantastise what all that can be! We're busy planning features, DIYs and the layout. In April the second issue will be in stores. Very exciting. But seriously, April. That's a long wait. That wouldn't do. So Marjolein said last week that it would be fun to make a mini-Christmas issue of Robin Magazine. What a great plan! So we were very busy last week making it happen, but we did it.

Ik heb héél wat supermarkten van binnen gezien, want ik kookte me helemaal suf! Want kerstmis zonder lekker eten is ook maar zo zo, toch? Dit lekkere hapje met hert is het hoofdgerecht geworden.

I went to many many supermarkets last week and I cooked up a storm. 'Cause Christmas without good food, isn't quite Christmas now is it? This yummy dish with deer made it as a main course for the magazine.

En dit is het voorgerecht geworden. Een ontzettend lekkere en gemakkelijke garnalencocktail. Want ik ben persoonlijk van mening dat het helemaal niet gezellig is om de hele dag in de keuken te staan, terwijl iedereen leuk spelletjes aan het doen is en met elkaar kan kletsen. Easy does it, so gezegd. En geloof me, qua smaak is dit het helemaal.

And this is the entree. A really nice shrimp cocktail that is so easy to prepare. 'Cause I think that there's no fun in it if you have to be in the kitchen all day whilst your family is enjoying themselves, playing games and chatting. So why make it too difficult for yourself. And this dish is so tasty that you wouldn't even know that it's so easy to make.

Deze koekjes zijn niet bepaald slankertjes. Maar wat is dat nu wel met de kerst? Ik heb ze uitgebreid laten voorproeven door een kritisch en dankbaar testpanel (de collega's van mijn man) en ze zijn helemaal goed gekeurd. Lekker op zichzelf of bij een kop koffie.

These cookies are not exactly 'light', but seriously... what is during Christmas? I've had them pretasted by a very chosy audience (my husbands colleagues) and they really liked them. You can eat these cookies as a dessert or with a cup of coffee.

Maar de recepten zijn maar een klein gedeelte van het magazine. Want zoals je van ons gewend bent vind je in dit magazine weer leuke DIY's, tutorials, producten en boekentips.

Free printable: handmade with love card

Jullie geven, net als ik, weleens cadeautjes aan mensen die je zelf hebt gemaakt. Ik vind het dan altijd wel leuk om er dan een handgeschreven kaartje bij te doen.

You guys sometimes give pressies that you've made yourself, right? I always like adding a handwritten card.

Daarom maakte ik dit kaartje. Met een héle mooie graphic van een vintage naaimachine erop. En genoeg ruimte om een eigen boodschap op te schrijven.

That's why I designed this gift card. With a nevry nice graphic of a vintage sewing machine. It has enough space to write a (long!) personal message on.

En wie denkt: wat een kriebel-krabbel handschrift! Ja, dat klopt. Ik ben journalist hé, dus ik schrijf wat af. Een prachtig dameshandschrift heb ik dan ook al lang niet meer.

And who thinks: now that's an unreadable handwriting. Oh yeah! I'm a journalist, that's my excuse. I write so much every day that my lovely ladylike handwriting has left the building a long time ago.

Dus print gewoon een aantal schone exemplaren uit, zodat je die met je (hopelijk veel mooiere) handschrift kan volschrijven met een lieve boodschap. Downloaden kan hier.

Butterflies all over (free printable!)

Een beetje bang voor files, lange rijen en (sorry) massa's gillende en huilende kinderen, stapten ik en mijn lief gisteren toch in de auto richting tuincentrum. Het balkon was nog véél te leeg. Bovendien hadden we nog een paar cadeaubonnen liggen van toen we trouwden. Zonde om te laten liggen. Maar het viel allemaal reuze mee. Geen files of drukte en alle kids waren heel zoet. En in het tuincentrum (waar ik me tegoed deed aan petunia's, margrieten, gerbera's en lavendel) zag ik vlinders. Een ultiem zomergevoel overviel me.

A little afraid of traffic yams (because of the Bank Holiday), huge crowds and (sorry) hords of screaming kids, me and the husbear got in the car and went to the garden center. To buy loads of gorgious plants and flowers for our balcony, which was still quite empty. But, it was all good. It wasn't busy at all and the kids were on their best behaviours! At the garden center I (while I was hording lavender, daisies, gerberas and petunias). It felt so summery all of a sudden.

Nu weten jullie dat dit jaar mijn 'jaar van de kaart' is. Minder e-mailen en smsen, meer 'echte' kaarten op de bus. Dat zegt toch altijd net wat meer. Dus deed ik iets met vlinders, deze keer.

You guys know that this year is my 'year of the card', it's all about e-mailing and txting less and sending more reall cards. I mean, who doesn't like to get a card! So this time, I thought about a card with butterflies. And this is it.

Oh, en zo ziet ons balkon er toch wel een stuk vrolijker uit dacht ik zo. Laat de vlinders (en zomer) maar komen.

And doesn't look the balcony much more colourful already? So, let the butterflies (and summer) fly by.

Free printable: celebrate spring

Een paar weken geleden was ik zó optimistisch. Ik wist het zeker: de lente was gekomen! Ik fietste met mijn jas open over de Utrechtse grachten, pikte al een paar keer een terrasje en maakte al plannen om het balkon weer barstensvol bloemetjes en kruiden te zetten.

A few weeks ago I was so optimistic. I was so sure: spring had sprung! I cycled along the canals in Utrecht with my coat open, set outside in the sun with a drink a few times and had oh so many plans to redesign my entire balcony an fill it with flowers and herbs.

Maar kwam ik even bedrogen uit! Het is zo koud. Ik krijg bijna weer Elfstedenkoorts, brr. Maar ik geef niet op. Lente zal het worden! Heb je ook zo'n zin in de lente? Print dan gewoon deze kaart op een stevig stuk karton en stuur maar op naar iemand die het ook zo koud heeft.

But man, was I wrong! It is so cold right now. It's almost time to put the ice skates back on. Brr. But I won't give up on spring. It will spring again I'm sure. Do you also feel like spring? Just print this card on some cardpaper and send it to someone who's just as cold as I am.

Free printable: dinner invitation card

Een echte kaart ontvangen is leuk, een échte kaart sturen daarom eigenlijk net zo leuk. Dus in plaats van een mailtje sturen naar je vrienden of familie: print gewoon deze kaart uit en nodig ze uit om te komen eten. Echte kaarten, echt gezelschap. Daar kan toch niets tegenop!

Recieving a real card is fun, so sending a real card is actually just as much fun. So instead of txting or e-mailing your friends or family to invite them over to dinner: print this card and send it to them to invite then over for a bite to eat. Nothing beats a real card!

Free printable - Januari Greeting

Een paar jaar geleden (volgens mijn oh zo secure fotoarchief -ahem- was het 2007) heeft het 's winters precies één dag gesneeuwd. Ik nam vrij (de treinen zouden me toch niet brengen waar ik moest zijn), pakte de camera en liep door de buurt waar ik toen woonde. Ik schoot een aantal leuke winterplaatjes. Deze foto is al jaren mijn winterfavoriet.

A few years back (according to my photo archive it was 2007) it snowed for exactly one day that winter. I took the day off (yeah right, like the train was going to get me to work), grabbed my camera and took pictures of my neighbourhood. This picture has been my winter favorite for years now.

Hoe anders ziet je buurt eruit als het sneeuwt. Een speelplaatsje, waar hemelse rust heerste (volgens mij waren de scholen nog niet uit) en een oh zo Nederlands tafereel: een besneeuwde windmolen. Gewoon, midden in de stad.

I noticed how different my neighbourhood looked all snowy. A little playground, still white and untouched (I think the schools weren't out yet) and a very very Dutch picture: a windmill in the snow. This windmill is standing strong, just like that, in the middle of one of the biggest cities in The Netherlands.

Al die jaren wil ik al 'iets doen' met mijn favoriete winterfoto. Dus maakte ik dit kaartje, want er mogen best wat meer 'echte' kaarten verstuurd worden, vind ik. Papieren post krijgen (en dan niet je bankafschrift) is toch het leukst. Best een goed voornemen voor 2012: stuur elkaar eens een kaartje! Begin gewoon met deze: downloaden, printen op stevig papier, postzegel erop. Sturen maar! Wil je hem liever van mij ontvangen? Meld dat dan even in je berichtje hieronder, dan stuur ik een aantal van jullie een kaartje!

All these years I wanted to do 'something' with my favorite winter piccie. So I made this greeting card, 'cause I think sending real cards is just great. I mean, it's so nice to get 'real' (paper) mail these days (mail that isn't bills that is!). And if you need a New Years resolution that's easy to keep, I think 'sending more postcards' is it! Just start with this one: download it, print it on cardstock, slap a stamp on it and there you go! Would you rather recieve one in the mail from me?
