Leuke nieuwe creatieve initiatieven moedig ik altijd aan, zeker als die worden opgezet in mijn eigen stad. Vandaar vond ik het zo leuk dat Ellen me uitnodigde voor de opening van haar nieuwe winkel/studio 'Urlaub' aan het nieuwe stadsstrandje van Utrecht.
I always applaud new creative initiatives, especially in my own city. So I was very happy that Ellen invited me to the opening of her new shop and studio 'Urlaub' near the enw city beach in Utrecht.
In haar winkel (zelf noemt ze het een conceptstore, maar ik weet nooit zo goed wat ik met zo'n term aan moet, want een 'concept' is in mijn ogen niet af, en dat zijn de mooie dingen bij Immer Urlaub zeker wel), verkoopt Ellen haar eigen illustraties en ontwerpen, maar ook die van andere designers. Een soort snoepwinkel voor iedereen die van (betaalbaar) design houdt.
In her shop (Ellen calls this her concept store, but I am not too sure what that means. As in my mind a concept isn't quite finished and the items in Ellens store definately are) you can buy Ellens own illustrations and designs, but she also sells designs by others. It's a candy store for people that love (affordable) design.
Mijn favoriet waren de hangers va 'De Grote Beer', echt geweldig bedacht en zo mooi gemaakt. Heel kwetsbaar om een stukje heelal rond je hals te hebben. Maar zoals je kunt zien, kiezen was moeilijk!
My favorites were the necklaces with 'The Big Dipper', so beautiful and well thought through. Wouldn't it be amazing and precious to have a piece of the universe around your neck? But as you can see, chosing was hard.
Als je in Utrecht bent, loop vooral even langs Urlaub (en ernaast zit een leuk café, Klein Berlijn). Het is naast Tivoli de Helling.
