Robin Magazine: an ice cold covershoot

Een weetje uit tijdschriftenland: het duurt een tijdje voor een blad op de mat ligt. Wisten jullie bijvoorbeeld dat ze bij Libelle het zomernummer al gaan plannen rond de kerstvakantie? Dat wanneer ieders oren eraf vriezen er dus bikini's de redactie overgaan en de nieuwste, hippe cocktails worden geproefd? En dat ze de laatste trends omtrent kerstballen en het kerstdiner bespreken als de Tour de France is volle gang is? Echt waar niet, gelogen. Bij Robin Magazine worden we steeds professioneler en dus plannen ook wij vooruit. Zoals mijn moeder altijd zegt: regeren is vooruit zien. En dat is waar! En zo kwam het dat ik vandaag, met 15 centimeter sneeuw op de motorkap van de auto, richting de Veluwe tufte om de cover te schieten van Robin Magazine. Het nummer dat in april op de mat zal liggen bij jullie. Als dat geen regeren is!

Let me tell you something about magazines. It takes a while before an issue is out. Did you guys know that Hollands most read womens magazine starts planning its summer issue in December. So when everyone is freezing their arse off they're actually talking bikinis and cocktails? And that they're talking about Christmas decoration  and what to serve for Christmas dinner when I'm watching the Tour de France? It's true. And since we're getting more professional over at Robin Magazine, we're also planning ahead. Like my mum says: those who rule the world, plan ahead. Ain't that the truth. And that's why today, while the entire country was covered in at leat 5 inches of snow if was driving to the Veluwe to do the cover shoot for the second issue of Robin Magazine. This issue will be for sale in April. We will rule. 

En net zoals de eerste keer dat we een covershoot deden, leek het wel een uitdragerij bij aankomst! Kris en Marjolein hadden zo ontzettend veel leuke spullen bij zich. Ons nieuwe thema is papier en daar kun je veel leuks op verzinnen. Brieven schrijven, round robin projecten, tekenen, schilderen, vintage kaarten. Maar Robin Magazine zou Robin Magazine niet zijn als er in het komend nummer niet ook wat leuks voor de hakers en andere creatieven onder ons iets in zou staan.

And just like the first time when we had the covershoot, it looked like we owned a thrift store when I arrived. Marjolein and Kris brought so much great paper related things. The theme of the new issue is paper and you can think of so much things paper related: writing letters, snailmail, post crossing, round robin projects, drawing and writing vintage postcards. But like in the first issue we'll also have fun stuff for crocheters and other creative peeps.

We hebben gesleept met schitterende vintage en industriële meubels en de sfeer was goed. We waren het gelukkig heel snel eens over wat het moest worden. De kleuren, de aankleding en alle accessoires... het klopte. En dan kan het dus heel snel gaan. Wat een topgevoel.

We we schlepping around gorgious vintage and industrial furniture and it looked good. We agreed pretty soon on what we should do and how things should look. The colors, atmosphere and accessories. It all made sense. That was quite a good feeling!

We mochten vandaag gebruikmaken van de winkel en alle meubels van Quip en Co, in Putten. Mocht je er eens in de buurt zijn: ga absoluut een keertje langs. Maarten en Lida hebben echt geweldige industriële tafels, lampen, krukjes en stoelen. Op de cover van de eerste Robin Magazine stond al een stoel van Quip en Co (ja, dat oranje exemplaar!) en ook vandaag hebben we wat beauties mogen kieken. Daar waren we heel blij mee en het was nog gezellig ook. 

Het is nog even aftellen naar april, maar we houden jullie natuurlijk van allerlei leuke nieuwtjes op de hoogte. Jullie kunnen natuurlijk hier blijven lezen, maar op de website van Robin Magazine staan ook allerlei leuke nieuwtjes. Bovendien delen we daar ook allerlei leuke DIYs en onze favoriete pins met jullie.

We were allowed to use all the wonderful industrial furniure from the Quip & Co store ánd shoot in the store itsself, which is such a great place. If you're ever in Holland, see if you can squeeze in a visit to this place. But you can also check their website. On the cover of the first issue of Robin Magazine we already featured a chais of Quip & Co (the orange one!) and today we used more lovelies from the store. We were so happy we were able to do this and we had a lot of fun.

Making a magazine (part 2)

Het krijgt vorm, ons Robin Magazine. Al eerder konden jullie lezen over dit nieuwe, superleuke initiatief van twee supercreatieve ladies en ondergetekende. 1 oktober verschijnt het: noteer het in de agenda! En vandaag kreeg het magazine écht vorm, het ging leven. Wij kwamen bij elkaar vandaag om de cover te fotograferen. Een covershoot. Jaja.

It's starting to get a shape and form, our Robin Magazine. You've read about this great initiative of two super creative ladies and yours truely. On October 1st it will be there. Please note it! And today, things became very real for us when we had the cover shoot of our mag. So exciting!

We hadden héle leuke sponsors (zoals Dille&Kamille, Pand 49, Uit eigen streek etc) die ons allerlei superleuke materialen en lekkere dingen leenden die we zo maar mochten gebruiken. We hadden letterlijk kratten en kratten vol met leuke spullen. Serieuze keuzestress!

We managed to get some really great sponsors (Dille&Kamille, Pand 49, Uit eigen streek) who lent us lots of great looking and yummy things to use in our shoot. We seriously had crates and crates full with gorgious cover shoot material. And yes, that caused some stress (I mean... how hard to pick was this!)

Ontzettend trots waren we vandaag in ieder geval op de speciale 'Red Robin' cupcakes, die ons werden geleverd door Bakenversier.nl. Ik bedoel, onwijs gaaf toch?

We were particularly proud of these (especialy baked for us) 'red Robin' cupcakes who were sponosred to us my Bakenversier.nl. I mean, that's totally cool isn't it?

We hebben héél wat 'proef' opstellingen gemaakt, voordat we echt aan de slag gingen met de covershoot. Je moet toch een beetje weten wat werkt en wat niet! Marjolein had stapels mooi vintage servies bij zich en experimenteerde met een echte retro look.

We tried out lots of different poses and looked at what would work and what wouldn't before we really  started our shoot. Here's Marjolein (on of the creative ladies) who brought a bus load woth of fantastic vintage china. She was therefor experimenting with 'the retro look'.

Om op te vreten toch? Maar nee, dit wordt niet onze cover.

Just adorable isn't it? But no, this isn't going to be our cover.

's Middags kwam namelijk Mireille om écht mooie foto's te maken van de hele mooie opstelling die we hadden opgebouwd. Haar enthousiasme was absoluut aanstekelijk! (En ik vond haar laarzen te gek!)

'Cause in the afternoon we invited Mireille to take absolutely gorgious shot of what is going to be our cover. Very exciting and lucky for us, she was very enthusiastic. (And I really loved her boots)

We hebben verschrikkelijk hard gewerkt vandaag. Ja, een tijdschrift maken is niet voor niets een echt vak. We hebben gespeeld met verschillende achtergronden, we hebben geboord en geklommen en héél veel dingen laten vallen (Volgens Kris zijn we niet onhandig, maar vallen er gewoon vaak dingen. En daar blijven we bij!). Maar het was vooral ook héél erg gezellig. Sandra, van Blauwe Druifjes, heeft ons de hele dag met raad en daad (en appeltaart) bijgestaan (TOP!) en we werden op de Veluwe bij Kris héél erg goed verzorgd. Kris organiseerde tot niet zo lang geleden pizza workshops en zij en haar man hebben een prachtige pizza oven in de tuin. Voordeel voor ons: 1) mooie sfeerbeelden voor Robin Magazine 2) heerlijk (zelfgemaakte) pizza tijdens de lunch!

We worked incredibly hard today. Yes, creating a magazine is a serious profession for a reason. We worked with different backgrounds, drilled holes in walls, climbed on things and dropped lots of stuff (according to Kris this has nothing to do with our clumsiness, but with gravity and we're sticking with that!). But most of all we had a really great time. Sandra (who blogs over at Blauwe Druifjes) helped us all day and brought apple pie. And Kris' place, where we had the shoot, was just really nice. Untill not so long ago, she hosted pizza workshop from the fantastic pizza oven she and her husband have in their yard. This had two advantages for us: 1) great atmosphere in all our shots 2) Freshly bakes pizza for lunch!

So, keep a close eye on Robin Magazine. There's more to come for sure...
