Toen mijn lief en ik vorig jaar trouwden, vierden we maar een heel klein feestje. Gewoon onze ouders, broers en zussen en wat vrienden. Meer dan genoeg. Het verbaasde ons gewoonweg hoeveel mensen met ons meeleefden en ons spontaan cadeaus opstuurden. In onze keukenlade lagen nog een aantal hotel- en overnachtingsbonnen op ons te wachten. En met het schitterende weer van afgelopen weekend, moesten we er gewoon tussenuit breken.
When my love and me got married last year, we had a very small wedding. Just our parents, siblings and best friends. All we needed really. So it really took us by surprise how many people were thinking about us, congratulating us and sending us presents. Therefor, we still had some hotel vouchers laying around. And with the gorgious weather of last weekend, me and my love decided to break away!
We reisden af naar Zwolle. Daar waren we allebei nog nooit geweest. En waarom eigenlijk niet? Zwolle is echt een prachtige vestingstad. Je kunt wandelen langs de singel en de oude vesting bekijken, shoppen in de gezellige binnenstad, eten bij hele goede restaurants (zoals bij Librije hierboven, hebben wij niet gedaan hoor) en een terrasje (of 3) pikken.
We went to Zwolle, a small city in the east of The Netherlands. We both had never been there before. And why not, we wonder now! It's such a cute old city. You can enjoy a walk along the canal, go shopping, have dinner at a Michelin Star restaurants (like Librije, in the picture above, not that we ate there unfortunately) and sit outside and have a drink (or 3).
Zwolle mag dan klein, maar fijn zijn, je kunt er echt prima shoppen. Vooral de Sassenstraat vond ik erg de moeite waard! Hier vind je leuke, bijzondere winkeltjes. Voor jezelf, de kids of voor op tafel.
Zwolle may be small, but it's definately a good shopping destination. I loved shopping in Sassenstraat, where you find small boutques for yourself, your kids or your kitchen.
Mijn favoriet (by far!) was 'Kunst en Klieder', waar je hele mooie papierwaren kan krijgen, grappige lampenkapjes, koddige en kleurrijke serviezen, meters fleurig tafelzeil en allerlei leuke retrospulletjes. Lief heeft héél geduldig buiten gewacht, totdat ik klaar was met wat leuks uitzoeken.
May favorite shop (by far!) was Kunst en Klieder, where there was so much choice of lovely stationary, funny lamp shades, cute porcelain, yards and yards of oil cloth and lots of retro stuff. My love waited patiently outside for me to finish shopping here. Oh, picking something was so tough!
Hoe geweldig is deze gloednieuwe vélocipède! Mijn lief merkte op dat de versie van 2012, in tegenstelling tot zijn antieke broer, wél remmen heeft. Nou, daar ben ik voor. Fietsen op zo'n kreng zal lastig genoeg zijn.
How cute is this brand new 'vélocipède'! My love notices (like only a man does) that this 2012 version does have brakes, unlike it's antique brother! Well, hurray for brakes I say! 'Cause cycling on this thing will be hard enough already!
We hebben niet gegeten bij de Librije (dat stond ons budget niet toe), maar voor de liefhebber: de Librije heeft ook een kookwinkel. Daar kun je de bijzondere en typische 'Jonnie en Therèse Boer' producten gewoon kopen! Alleen het schattige pand is al een bezoekje waard. Waar we wel hebben gegeten? Bij De Atlas, erg de moeite waard. En een terrasje pikken? Bij Villa Suikerberg (daar kun je ook lekker high tea-en trouwens!)
We didn't have dinner in the Michelin Star restaurant (oh that silly little thing called a budget), but the restaurant also has a shop where you van buy all the yummy stuff from the chef of the restaurant and the wines his wife selected. Fabulous place. We ate at De Atlas instead, which was very good. And for a drink and the sun, or a high tea, you can visit Villa Suikerberg.
