Polkadot clutch purse

En toen had ik ineens de smaak te pakken. Vorige week maakte ik twee clutches met Londen stof en dat ging eigenlijk best goed. Daarom maakte ik nu dit gestippelde exemplaar. Zo vrolijk!

And now I've got the taste for zipper sewing. Last week I've made these two clutches in a London fabric. It went so well that I just made this baby in polkadots. So happy!

De stof is van Thilda. Ik heb hem al meer dan een jaar liggen en nu had ik er eindelijk een bestemming voor.

It's made from Thilda fabric. I've had this fabric laying around for over a year and now I have finally found a use for it.

En ook de binnekant is gestippeld. Dit Stenzo stofje is één van mijn favorieten. Ik heb het ook in het rood (da's geen verrassing zeker!), maar blauw past natuurlijk stukken beter!

And also the lining is polkadotted! This Stenzo fabric is one of my favorites. I also have that fabric in red (of course!), but blue was the better match.

Ideaal om je paspoort en andere reispapieren in te bewaren. En eh, vergeten jullie niet mee te doen met de weggeefactie op mijn website, hij is er ook voor jullie hoor! De actie loopt nog tot woensdag, daarna ben ik op naar the Olympics!

This is such a perfect pouch for keeping your travel documents! Maybe something for me when I'm off to London at the end of the week?

Also rather happy in blue

Voor iemand die zich erop voorstaat dat ze zichzelf op haar blog Happy in Red noemt, ben ik de laatste tijd toch veel met blauw aan de zwier. Hier maakte ik al een tas in het blauw en ook bij het maken van de ritstasjes voerde blauw de boventoon.

For someone who calls herself 'Happy in Red' on her blog, I've been busing myself a lot with blue lately. Here I made a bag with leather straps in blue and with my zippered pouches blue was also the leading colour.

Misschien zit ik wel in mijn 'blauwe periode', net zoals Picasso er één heeft gehad. Niet dat ik me met Picasso wil vergelijken: oh nee! Maar opvallen is het wel, al dat blauw. Deze week rolde deze tas onder mijn machine vandaag. Maar ja, zulk heerlijk helder blauw kon ik gewoon niet weerstaan.

Maybe I'm having a 'blue period', just like Picasso had one. Not that I am trying to compare myself with Picasso, dear no! But it is rather typical isn't it? Me and all the blue. This week I made this baby. I could not resist that bright blue for the life of me.

En dan rolde er ook nog twee bijpassende ritstasjes van de band. Blauw natuurlijk! Maar ik moet zeggen, ik ben er nog niet helemaal blij mee. Het is toch lastig, dat gedoe met die ritsen! Ik vind het vooral lastig om die 'uiteinden' van de ritsen er een beetje netjes uit te laten zien, nadat je je tasje binnenstebuiten hebt gekeerd.

And I also made two matching zippered pouches. Blue of course! But I have to say, I am still working on my 'sewing zippers skills'. Zippers are tough cookies! I really have troubles getting 'the ends' of the zippers to look nice after you've turnes the pouches inside out.

Heeft er misschien iemand wat gouden tips, qua ritstasjes? Of mag ik mss een keer bij iemand een cursus/workshop komen doen? (In ruil voor een tas) Ik zou het erg op prijs stellen!

Does any of you have some good advice on 'how you cannot go wrong with zippered pouches'? It would be much appreciated!

Experimenting with zippered pouches

Sinds ik een tijdje geleden een poepsimpel ritstasje voor mezelf maakte (gewoon hier te proberen), vond ik ritsen al een stuk minder eng. En het is zoals ze zeggen... oefening baart kunst. Stevig doortrainen is dan wel een must!

Ever since I made this easy peasy zippered pouch for myself (just try it yourself, here), I tought zippers weren't so scary anymore. It's a matter of practise makes perfect. So practising I did.

Ik experimenteerde een beetje met verschillende vormen en (zelf getekende) patroontjes. Dat was sowieso al best leuk, maar het is dan natuurlijk ook wel fijn als er iets uitkomt dat enigszins acceptabel is.

I experimented a little with dufferent shapes and patterns (that I drew myself). It was a very fun experience, but of course I'd like things to turn out well after  trying so hard.

Dit is resultaat deel 1. Ik ben niet ontevreden. Een klein ritstasje/handtasje voor aan je pols. Ik ben nog steeds zwaar verliefd op dit stofje. Maar aan de enorme lap die ik ooit kocht, komt nu echt een einde.


And this is result no.1, I am quite happy with it. It's a wristlet! I am still very smitten with this fabric, but unfortunately I have almost run out of it. Too bad!

Dit okergele stofje kocht ik op Van Katoen, echt super vind ik het!! Een passende rits vinden, bleek een onmogelijke opgave. Dan maar wild met felblauw. Is niet verkeerd uitgepakt volgens mij. Ik ben nog niet 100% tevreden met de vorm en het maak-proces (ritsen zijn nog steeds een beetje rare beesten), maar het gaat toch wel goed komen met mij en de ritstasjes.

This ocher fabric I bought in Ghent at the Van Katoen event, I love it. Finding a matching sipper however turned out to be impossible. So I went wild with blue. Not too shabby looking is it. I am not 100% happy yet with the shape and making process (zippers are odd animals aren't they), but I do feel confident that me and zippered pouches will turn out to have a healthy relationship.
