My crochet hexagon blanket in an After Party

Dat je met mijn haakpatronen alle kanten op kunt, wist ik natuurlijk al lang (lekker bescheiden hè, haha). Maar ik merk toch vaak dat mensen een beetje vasthouden aan het garen waarin ik het haakpatroon had bedacht, terwijl je (wat mij betreft) echt wel zelf kunt beslissen welk garen je voor een patroon gebruikt. Vooral voor een deken kun je uit ontzettend veel mooie wolletjes kiezen. Vandaar dat ik het heel leuk vond om voor een After Party de gehaakte zeshoekjes deken in Merino Soft te maken.
Maybe you had noticed already, but there are plenty of possibilities when it comes to my crochet patterns. But I often find that people stick to the example that I have crocheted, they pick the same yarn and the same colours. Which is a massive compliment of course (as they must like what I made). But when it comes to a lot of my patterns, you are free to choose whatever colours or yarn you like! Especially when you decide to make one of my crochet blankets, there are so many nice types of yarn to choose from. That's why I was so excited to make my crochet hexagon blanket in Merino Soft for an After Party.

Crochet bags for summer: a crochet pattern

Meestal ben ik nogal van het tassen naaien. Als je niet te veel onderdelen hebt, gaat dat redelijk snel. Maar de laatste tijd heb ik ook het tassen haken goed onder de knie gekregen. Misschien herinneren jullie je mijn boodschappentas en vlindertas nog wel? Ik was dan ook erg vereerd toen ik, midden in de winter, werd gevraagd om wat lekkere zomertassen te haken, voor Yarn the sea edition.
To be honest, I prefer sewing bags to crocheting bags. If you don't have too many parts to sew, you can easily finish a bag within and afternoon or an evening. And to crochet a bag takes a little longer. But since a year or so I am getting the hang of crocheting bags. Do you remember my crochet grocery bag and peacock butterfly bag? That's why I was very honoured to design a summer bag crochet pattern for bookazine Yarn, the sea edition.

Dat er op een bepaald moment tijdens de 2016 versie van de Scheepjes CAL bij mij de klad in zou komen. Dat had ik wel verwacht. Dat ging bij de vorige CAL namelijk net zo. Maar bij deze CAL kwam de klad er al in nadat ik zelf het hele gebeuren had afgetrapt in week 1. Hm, niet bepaald iets om trots op te zijn, maar er gebeurde ineens zo veel dat de CAL gewoon een beetje op de achtergrond kwam. Deze week heb ik mijzelf echter een schop onder mijn hol gegeven en vrolijk gaan verder haken. En daar heb ik zo veel plezier in gehad!
Somehow I did expect to fall behind on the Scheepjes 2016 CAL. I mean, that happened to me during the last CAL. But now, I hit a new low, and immediately fell behind right after kicking off the CAL in week 1. Yes, I was pretty dissapointed in myself. But so many things happened all at once, that the CAL slipt right trough my fingers. This week, however, I decided to place a boot up my arse and keep on going. And I had so much fun!

Wat een spannende dag is het vandaag zeg! We beginnen met de CAL van Scheepjes, Last Dance on the Beach. Een eerbetoon aan haakvriendinnetje Wink van 12 van haar blog- en haakvriendinnen, waaronder ik zelf. Hier kunnen jullie er nog meer over lezen. En vandaag trappen we de CAL af... met MIJN vierkantje. Ik heb vannacht bijna niet geslapen, ZO spannend vind ik het. Ik hoop dat jullie mijn vierkantje mooi en niet zo moeilijk vinden (ik houd niet van ingewikkeld) en mijn excuses als jullie het geen mooi vierkantje vinden... je kunt niet iedereen blij maken. Vandaag ga ik samen met jullie het vierkantje stap voor stap maken, deel ik handige video's en hoop ik dat jullie een leuk begin van deze CAL hebben. Veel plezier hè!

A blanket designed in her spirit by 12 of her crochet friends, including myself. You can read the story here, if you haven't already. But today we start this Crochet Along... with MY square. And I am so excited that I hardly slept last night. I just really hope you like the square I designed and that you won't have so much trouble with it. If you don't like my square, I am sorry but it's just impossible to make everyone happy, I hope you understand. A new Scheepjes CAL: my last dance with Wink

Ik heb heel lang getwijfeld of ik deze blog moest schrijven. En wat zou ik schrijven? En wat zou zij daar dan van vinden? Maar zij was degene met het idee voor deze CAL en we hebben hem ontworpen met haar in onze gedachte. Op 20 april gaat de langverwachte nieuwe Scheepjes CAL van start: Last Dance on the Beach. Bedacht door Marinke van A creative being en na haar overlijden door ons afgemaakt.
Honestly, I was doubting a lot about writing this post. What is there to say? And what would she think about all this? But it was her idea to have this CAL and we designed this CAL with her in mind. On April 20th we're starting a brand new Scheepjes CAL: Last Dance on the Beach. An idea by Marinke (whom you all knew from A creative being) and designed by me and bloggers close to her, after her sad passing.
'Heb jij geen wolwinder? Kind, hoe kun je zonder leven!' Haar ogen twinkelden van achter haar brillenglazen. Ik zei zoiets als 'Nou, dat gaat wel', en keek haar even aan. We barsten allebei in lachen uit. Dat was mijn ontmoeting met Marinke, met Wink, zo'n 2 jaar geleden. Een chaotisch, enthousiast, lief en creatief mens. Iemand die alleen iets met volle passie kon doen of anders helemaal niet. We hadden online behoorlijk veel contact en zouden elkaar vorig jaar weer zien, maar Marinke was ziek, depressief, en het kwam er helaas niet van. En toen kwam dat telefoontje, dat telefoontje waar ik nog steeds niet aan kan denken...
'You haven't got a wool winder? Honey, how do you survive without one?' Her eyes were twinkling behind her glasses. I said something like: 'Well, I'm coping I guess' and gave her a little stare. We both burst out laughing. And that's how I met Marinke, Wink, almost two years ago. A chaotic, enthusiastic, sweet and creative person. We were in touch quite a lot and we were supposed to meet again last year. But she was sick, depressed, and couldn't come. Not much later I recieved the phone call, the phone call that I still can't think about....

Crochet at Landleven Winter Fair

Ik was nog nooit in het Nederlands Openluchtmuseumin Arnhem geweest. Waarom niet? Geen idee! Maar toen ik door Scheepjes werd gevraagd om afgelopen weekend haakuitleg te geven op de Landleven Winter Fair in het Nederlands Openluchtmuseum, zei ik meteen ja! Zoals jullie weten, houd ik ontzettend van kerstmarkten, en het vooruitzichten van tientallen kraampjes vol handgemaakte producten, warme appel cider, vuurkorven en een enorme schaatsbaan met het openluchtmuseum als decor vulde mij met pure vreugd!
The Netherlands are not a very big country and we don't have that many open air museums. But the Netherlands Openair Museum in Arnhem is the most famous one. It's huge, and on it you can find actual historical buildings thet were built throughout the Netherlands since the beginning of times. It's beautiful. Yet, I had never been there. No idea why. So when Scheepjes asked me to be part of a huge winter fair and give crochet workshops in this grand museum, I said yes without even giving it a second thought. I mean... more than 100 stalls with handmade presents, food, crafts, apple cider. That sounds as good as a German Christmas market, well... as close as it gets!

It's huge, and on it you can find actual historical buildings thet were built throughout the Netherlands since the beginning of times. It's beautiful. Yet, I had never been there. No idea why. So when Scheepjes asked me to be part of a huge winter fair and give crochet workshops in this grand museum, I said yes without even giving it a second thought. I mean... more than 100 stalls with handmade presents, food, crafts, apple cider. That sounds as good as a German Christmas market, well... as close as it gets!

Het was alweer véél te lang geleden dat ik een Give Away organiseerde! Dus dat werd weer eens tijd. Gewoon omdat ik er zin in had en omdat ik zo ontzettend blij ben met de leuke comments hier, de mailtjes die ik krijg en de enthousiaste likes en reacties op Facebook. Geweldig! It has been WAY too long since I organized a proper Give Away, so I decided to make it a Big Party this time!! Why? Well, just because I can really. I am just thrilled with the fabulous comments on my blog, the sweet e-mails I recieve and the awesome likes and reactions on Facebook. I take nothing for granted. Alright, read this blogpost carefully, there's some great stuff to win.
Allereerst kreeg ik superveel leuke reacties op mijn gehaakte boodschappentassen. Dat vind ik zo leuk dat ik allebei de tassen weggeef! Maar dat is nog niet alles...
First of all, I got so many wonderful comments on my crochet market bags. I loved them so much that I decided to give both market bags away!! but that's not everything...
Want toen ze bij Scheepjes lucht kregen van mijn haakpatroon (dat ik maakte met Scheepjes Bloom) boden ze zó maar aan om een aantal kits met Bloom garen weg te geven, zodat je zelf aan de haak kan! Ik stelde de pakketten samen voor de twee bovenstaande tassen, maar kwam met nog een heerlijke kleurencombinatie op de proppen. Dus... als je liever zelf aan de haak gaat, dan kun je dus één van deze 3 garenpakketten winnen. Hoera!
