Crochet inspiration evening, with a buddy

Mijn vriendinnen haken niet. En stiekem vind ik dat erg jammer. Ze vinden het heus wel leuk wat ik maak (meestal dan toch), maar zelf de haaknaald en wol oppakken doen ze niet. En het zou toch wel leuk zijn om je hobby met vriendinnen te kunnen delen, maar helaas. Gelukkig heb ik dankzij mijn blog héél veel nieuwe mensen leren kennen (en daar sta ik nog elke dag van te kijken), waarmee ik wel lekker over verschillende wolletjes, dekens, WIP's en UFO's kan hebben, zonder dat iemand daar vreemd van op kijkt. Een avondje haken en beppen vind ik dan ook echt geweldig.

My friends don't crochet. And if I am honest, I think it's a pitty, really. They do like the fact that I enjoy crochet and they love what I make (or they say they do, anyway), but they don't pick up a hook themselves. Too bad, as it would be so cool to share something I love with a good friend. That said, because of crochet and my blog I have met so many lovely people who have the same love and passion for crafting and crochet, with whom I can chat about yarn, blankets, WIPs and UFOs without getting strange looks. So to me, nothing beats a night of chatter and crochet.

Crochet inspiration from Turkey

Soms zit ik zo eens door mijn oude reisfoto's te snuisteren, dat doen jullie vast ook weleens. En tussen de 'Goh, wat was het hier mooi' en de 'Wat jammer dat ik die spijkerbroek niet meer heb' en de 'Waarom heb ik daar in vredesnaam geen mascara op' en andere diepe gedachtes had ik ineens een 'Hé, gehaakte dekens' moment. Mijn oog viel op een foto van een aantal oude dames en een meisje dat op de stoep zat te haken en kletsen.

Sometimes I am browsing through my old travel pics, as I am sure you all do sometimes, and I had some incredibly deep thoughts. Like 'Ooh, it's so pretty there' and 'What a shame I don't have that pair of jeans anymore' and 'Why on earth am I not wearing mascara that day?', you know... all phylosophical. And then my mind went to 'Hey look, crochet blankets'. A much better pondering I would think. My eye caught a picture that I took from a bunch of ladies and a girl, sitting by the side of the road, crocheting.

Time for a new project

Op dit moment liggen er flink wat naaiprojecten op me te wachten. Een aantal tassen, kussenslopen. Ze kijken me ook wel een beetje beschuldigend aan: 'zet ons nu in elkaaaar'. Dat komt ook wel. Echt. Maar ik had ook ineens haakinspiratie. Want het is weer tijd voor een nieuw haakproject.

At the moment I have some bags and pillo cases waiting around to be sewn. They're looking at me, trying to make me feel guilty: please, finish uuuus. And I will. Really. But I got some color inspiration today, for a crochet project. I was really in need of a new crochet project.

Ik koos wat echte herfstkleuren uit. Ik ben gek op okergeel, zoals jullie vorig jaar al eens konden zien. Ik vind dit wel een hele geslaagde combinatie van kleuren. Of moet er misschien nog een lichte kleur bij? En zo ja, welke kleur dan?

I choose these lovely fall colours. I love mustard, as you were able to see last year. I really do like this combinations of colors. Or should I maybe add another light color? And if so, what color what that be?

Ik krijg regelmatig de vraag hoe ik mijn kleuren uitkies voor haakprojecten. Dat vind ik altijd een lastige vraag om te beantwoorden. Inspiratie is namelijk overal te vinden. Op straat, op je werk, in tijdschriften en in je eigen hoofd. Maar mijn tip is: houd het lekker dicht bij huis. Kijk eens om je heen, naar de spullen die je mooi vindt en het antwoord komt vanzelf. Niet te lang online blijven plakken, werkt ook. Maar dat moet ik dus nog even leren!

Often I get asked how I pick the colours for my projects. That's a tough question to answer, I think. I mean, inspiration is everywhere. It's on the street, at your job, in magazines and of course in your own head. I think you should keep it simple and stay close to home. Look arond you, there is all the things you love so much. Inspiration will come, promise. Oh, and don't linger online for too long! Now that I still have to master!
