My brand new weekender bag
vrijdag 8 april 2016
Two weeks ago, my uncle of 83 years of age and myself, set off to visit Oudenaarde in the Flanders. We're both great cycling fans and decided to visit the Museum of the Tour of Flanders together. Because he lives just across the boarder in Belgium and my parents on the other side in The Netherlands, I decdied to have a sleepover before picking up my uncle early in the morning. And that's when I found out that I didn't have a decent weekender bag. So I got to my parents with my belongings in a grocery bag. I hung my head in shame, while I thought of all the yards of unused fabric in my closet.

Funky fold over bag
maandag 1 december 2014
Finally, finally I had the time to do some sewing again. When I am short of time, mostly I crochet. It's easier somehow. You can just do it while sitting on the couch and watching a show or a movie. When you want to do some sewing, more time and space is needed. I was so happy to get my sewing machine out yesterday. It's strange how you can miss certain things.
The project I worked on was so much fun: a present for a friend. I decided to make her a fold over bag, like the one I recently made for myself.
Thanx to your great advice (thank you!) there was no drama this time when putting in the zipper (Ha, I guess I am learning). I made the bag in a heart beat really. The most time was spent on cutting and ironing all the pieces. Since I lined the bag in blue cotton I thought it'd be fun to have a blue accent too on the outside. So Idecided blue cotton for the loops.

Wat vinden jullie? Goed gelukt?
So what do you think? Did it work out well?

My new fold over bag
donderdag 25 september 2014
Were you paying proper attention in my last post? If so, you may have seen it pop up somewhere in the pictures. 'Cause I wasn't making fun when I told you my new Orla Kiely shoes inspired me to wear some more bold things. And I really believe a new bag is a part of that.
Normally I carry a large black leather shoulder bag that is able to carry my entire life. My phone, day planner, note book, magazines, tablet, a book and a camera. Oh, and my wallet of course! But I really didn't think the big black leather beast would match this outfit well. Seriously, it just wasn't Orla enough! So I took a proper look into my fabric collection. I always have some brown canvas laying around and I combined that with a retro fabric that I have had a crush on since buying it. I once used it to make a pleated tote bag, but now it was time for a fun bag for me.
Ik ging voor een fold over tas. Eigenlijk heel simpel.
I decided to make myself a foldover bag. It's simple really. It closes with a zipper and inside there's a pocket with a zipper too, to put stuff. I like that. It's possible to use the bag in two ways, but I like it best if I fold the brown side over the retro fabric. Nice and happy looking. Oh, and by the by. If you guys know a good tutorial for putting a zip in a bag, please don't hesitate to tell me. I mean, I did it... in the end, but I feel it just took me too long to get it right. I should be able to do this better and quicker.
What do you think? Do you like how it worked out? Do you think it's worth it to make again?

dinsdag 18 februari 2014The cat is out of the hat: a pleated messenger bag
zondag 9 februari 2014
I had this bag laying around for a while: finished and photographed. But I couldn't let the cat out of the hat just yet. 'Cause the recipient of this bag reads my blog sometimes ánd this bag was part of a big and special surprise conspiracy, which took us all the way to England.
A friend of mine turned 50 and celebrations were in order. Her husband started planning her surprise party back in October and invited us too. It took a little more planning because we had to fly to England for the big surprise. But we worked it out. Keeping the cat inside the hat, keeping the secret about the party, was the biggest hurdle. Especially since we saw our friend in Constance over Christmas. She kept telling us how much she hoped to see us again soon. And we just secretly sniggered: she had no idea how soon she would see us again!
For this bag I used the pleated messenger bag pattern, but I made a bit of an adjustment. 'Cause I made this messenger with a recessed zipper. My first recessed zipper bag! I don't know if you recognise this, but for some reason I got myself conviced that I wouldn't be able to do this. It would be too hard, it would turn our crappy, I would suck etc... So I kept postponing until I had no other choice but to give myself an enormous boot up the behind. And guess what: I did it! And it looks quite right. Okay, it wasn't too easy (me and zips are not friends) but it certainly wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. And even though I see room for improvement, I do think it went smoothly enough and now I just wonder: what was all the fuss about?
I used Joel Dewberry fabric (I have no idea where I bought it, hehe). The zipper, lining and notions were bought at the Utrecht fabric market.
And the surprise? Yeah, it was a huge surprise! However, I think that maybe we had even more fun about this whole party than the birthday girl herself because all the fun and laughs we had over planning this surprise ánd because we get to spend time with our friends in England again.
