Inspiratie is een vreemd ding. Soms heb je zeeën van tijd en denk je 'laat maar komen', maar blijft het oorverdovend stil. En soms krijg je het ineens met bakken tegelijk. En ze was het afgelopen week gelukkig. Maar goed ook, want de shop moest weer eens flink worden aangevuld.
Inspiration is an odd thing, isn't it? Sometimes when you have time on your hands you really wish it would come, but nothing. And sometimes it comes all at ones and you need more time to finish all the projects in your head. This week, the latter was the case. And that was a good thing, 'cause I really needed to stock my shop.
Een tijdje geleden kocht ik dus een rol met allemaal lapjes en ondanks dat ik de stofjes héél mooi vond, had ik geen flauw idee wat ik ermee moest doen. Zonde, want er goedkoop was die rol niet. Maar met tijd komt raad en van de week had ik ineens een ingeving. Natuurlijk! Tassen. What else.
A while a go I bought this roll of different fabrics and I loved them, but was pretty clueless what to do with them. Such a shame, 'cause the fabric was rather expensive. But this week I figured it out. How could I have missed it! Bags, of course. What else?
De eerste die van de machine rolde was dit qua en rode exemplaar. Ik vind dit toch zo'n fijne kleurencombi.
The first one to roll from the machine was this tote in aqua and red. Lovely color combo I think.
En dit het tweede. Dat wolkenmotiefje met die vogeltjes vind ik trouwens echt top! En voor iemand het vraagt: ik heb echt géén idee van welke ontwerper het is. Mocht iemand het weten: ik houd me aanbevolen!
And this is the second tote bag. I just love the fabric with the clouds and birds. It's so sweet. And before you ask: I have no idea who designed the fabric. If someone has a clue: please let me know.
Aan deze tas zit wel weer een verhaal (hè, gelukkig maar), want de bloemetjesstof zat niet op de rol. Deze komt uit Istanbul. Ik kocht de stof daar in de Grote Bazaar. Ik denk zelfs dat het stof is waar de vrouwen daar hoofddoeken van maken, want heel dik is het niet. Maar wel mooi. Helemaal top bij deze blauwe stof die ik onlangs bij Ikea vond. Kon ik mijn Turkse stof eindelijk eens gebruiken!
There is a story about this bag (yay!), 'cause the flower fabric wasn't on the fabric roll. I bought it in Istanbul, at the Grand Bazar. I think this fabric is used to make head scarves normally, as it isn't really heavy. But it sure is pretty. I really liked it with this blue fabric I found at Ikea.
En ze liggen dus nu allemaal gezellig in mijn shop te wezen! En aangezien er nog meer mooie stoffen op de rol zaten, denk ik dat er binnenkort nog meer van dit soort tassen worden gemaakt.
And now they're all sitting nicely together in my shop. And since there are more fabrics from the lovely roll I think more bags like these will make an appearance soon.

Je moet je grenzen verleggen. Gewoon af en toe eens wat nieuws proberen! Ik paste mijn vertrouwde tote bags eens aan met leren hengsels. Ze zijn zó gaaf!
You gotta try something new every now and then. So I've made some tote bags with leather straps. I really like them.
Het zijn lederen hengsels die je moet opnaaien. Ik koos constraterende kleuren om ze aan de stof te zetten (wat nog best even pielen was!), maar het effect is wel erg stoer vind ik.
These leather straps you have to sew on. I chose a contrast colour, matching the colour of the lining of the bag. It's was quite a task to sew the straps on, but the effect is great I think.
Ben er stiekem écht heel gek op, zo. Nu kocht ik meteen een paar sets, dus ik gok zo maar dat er in de toekomst nog meer van deze onder mijn naaimachine vandaan komen.
I am actually quite proud with the result. I've bought a few sets of these straps, so I am just guessing if I say I see more of these bags in my future.
En deze tas heb ik maar meteen in mijn Etsy winkel gezet.
And I have also put this bag in my Etsy shop.
Deze tas van mij gaf Ingthings een paar dagen geleden weg op haar blog. Er kwamen een hele hoop leuke reacties op. Ontzettend bedankt! Ik sta daar dan toch wel even van te kijken hoor. En daarom zette ik nog een exemplaar van deze tas te koop, ook in de shop. Mocht je interesse hebben: dan weet je me te vinden.
A few days ago Ingthings gave away this bag of mine away on her blog. A lot of nice things were said about it. So sweet! It really made me blush, thank you all! And that's why I put another of these in my shop too. So if you like it, you know where to find it.

Omdat ik inmiddels de 700 volgers al gepasseerd ben (amai!), omdat ik onlangs jarig was (pomptiedom), omdat ik onlangs mijn shopje lanceerde (tadaa) en omdat ik het gewoon leuk vind.

Dit is een kleine polkadot tas, die je over de schouder kunt dragen. Oké, een beetje een nutteloos zakje, maar wat een schatje of niet!
So this is my over the chest polka dot bag. Alright, it’s a bit of a useless pocket I front, but isn’t it cute!
Aan de binnenkant heb ik een hartjesstofje gebruikt. Ook super! Sommige van jullie vragen weleens waar ik mijn stoffen haal. Nou, op de stoffenmarkt in Utrecht. Kom eens langs, zou ik zeggen.
The inner fabric is made from such a cute heart frabric. Cute! Some of you peeps sometimes have asked where I get my fabrics. Well, at the Utrecht fabric market. Come by, if you feel like it.

About a big date and a big step

En dan ben je dus ineens jarig. Vandaag. Een leeftijd bereikt waar ik het dus liever niet over heb. De grote drie-nul. Zo, daar heb ik het gezegd. En verder wil ik het er niet over hebben!
So, all of a sudden it was my bday. Today. I reached an age that I’d rather not talk about. The big three-zero. There. I’ve said it. Let’s not mention it again.
Nu ben ik wel van de dol dwaze acties. Van die acties waarvan mijn moeder zou zeggen: ‘Jij ook altijd met je streken’. Nou mam, ga er maar eens even voor zitten. Want ik heb het gedaan… ik heb het écht gedaan.
Now, I am all in for crazy decisions. Decisions that would make my mum shake her head and say: ‘Oh seriously, this is so crazy you. Again.’ Well mum, buckle up and you’d better sit down for this. ‘Cause I did it, I really did.
I opened my very own Etsy shop today.
Ik wilde dit al heel lang, kreeg eigenlijk steeds vaker verzoeken om een tas te maken voor die-of-gene. En ik heb er vooral zo veel lol in. Dus waarom niet! En de datum om te starten. Ach, het leek me wel een mooie actie!
I have wanted this for a long time now. And lately, more and more people have put in their request for a custom made bag from me. And seriously, I just love making things for people! And the date to start my shop, wel… I guess I just had to dó something. So better make it a good one, right?
In mijn shop vind je, hoe kan het ook anders, tassen! Vrolijke kleuren, praktische modellen. Ik heb nog zo veel ideeën in mijn hoofd, dus de shop wordt aangevuld hoor! Binnenkort plaats ik er ook wat haakwerk in. Alles op zijn tijd!

"Ik wil ook leren haken", riep mijn vriendin Marion een jaar geleden. En ze kocht prachtig garen en een leuk haakboek. Spoel nu even een jaar vooruit en raad drie keer bij wie dat leuke haakboek al een jaar in de boekenkast staat. Juist, bij mij dus. Heel lief van haar om dat boek zo belangeloos aan mij te sponsoren (aangezien ze zelf de haaknaald maar 2 keer aanraakte), maar voor wat hoort wat!
'I'd really love to learn how to crochet", my friend Marion called out a year ago and bought gorgious yarn and a great crochet pattern book. Now fast forward and guess who's had the crochet book on her shelf for almost the year? Indeed, that's moi. It's really sweet that she gave me the book (since she only touched the crochet hook twice), but seriously... a gift like that asks for a gift.
Ik vroeg haar wat ze graag wilde hebben en ze riep zonder nadenken: zo'n lieve kleine schoudertas. Kwam dat even goed uit! Ik had nog een stel ontzettend leuke knopen liggen (voor de sluiting en het hengsel)... dus HOP aan de slag!
I asked her what she'd like and without hesitating she said: a cute little clutch. Seriously! I had some cute buttons laying around waiting for a project. So sewing I went.
Lief is de tas wel geworden dacht ik zo. Inclusief gezellige polkadotterds als voering. Ik blij, Marion blij, BLIJ! Soms is één en één drie!
Now, it really turned out cute didn't it! And for the lining I used party-polka-dot fabric. Me happy + Marion happy. Happy! Sometimes one and one is three!
En natuurlijk was ik niet vergeten dat ik een aantal van jullie nog een kaartje zou sturen. Dus laat ik het maar snel doen, voor de winter voorbij is ;-)
And of course I didn't forgot that I promised some of you a winter greeting card. So, I really have to send them now (before winter ends) ;-)

Volgens mij heb ik net als velen van jullie de afgelopen dagen achter mijn naaimachine zitten zwoegen op tassen voor Van Katoen. Niks mis mee hoor, met dat zwoegen. Want ik heb echt plaatjes voorbij zien komen, echt super! En dat allemaal voor een goed doel. Nog beter.
Like many of you I have been sweating behind the sewing machine to make those cute pleated shoppers for Van Katoen. Nothing wrong with making that efford at all! 'Cause I've seen some beauties in blogland, really nice! And it's all for a good cause, even better.
En ook ik maakte er weer een paar! Eerder maakte ik deze leuke exemplaren. Nu een leuke gestreepte, van een oude kussensloop van Ikea.
And I also made a few more! I made these cuties before. Now it was time for another cute stripey one, made from an old pillow cover from Ikea.
Superleuk toch? Lucky me... uit die kussensloop konden er dus twee!
How cute is this bag! And lucky for me... I could sew two bags out of one pillow case. Yes!
En omdat ik toch al aan het knippen was (en normaal kost dat het meeste tijd, maar met dit patroon dus absoluut niet!), knipte ik ook nog een tas uit deze leuke blauwe stof van Ikea. De Zweedse firma is goed vertegenwoordigd in Gent!
And because I was busy cutting fabric anyway (normally this is the most time consuming part in sewing I think, though not with his pattern!), I also cut a bag from this cute blue fabric from Ikea. I guess the Swedish firm will be represented well in Ghent at Van Katoen.

Gelukkig nieuwjaar allemaal! Hebben jullie een leuke jaarwisseling gehad? Ik heb de avond doorgebracht met mijn gekke, lieve vrienden en vreselijk veel lol gehad. Het was super!
Happy new year everyone! Did you have a lovely new years' eve? I spent the night with my crazy, lovely friends and had a absolute blast. It was a lot of fun!
Normaal gesproken doe ik niet aan goede voornemens. Ik bedoel, als je iets wil doen, moet je het gewoon doen. Daarvoor hoef je niet te wachten tot 1 januari. Maar dit jaar neem ik me toch iets voor. Ik wil namelijk naar Gent. Nou ja, zul je denken, da's toch niet wereldschokkend... Gent is voor Nederlanders toch om de hoek? Klopt! Maar ik ga niet zo maar naar Gent.
Ik ga namelijk naar Van Katoen! Alle opbrengsten van deze dag in april gaan naar een goed doel. Dat alleen al is mooi, maar je kunt tijdens Van Katoen dus ook deelnemen aan allerlei workshops en mooie stofjes en knoopjes kopen. En het is in Gent (leuke stad!). Meer overreding heb ik niet nodig. Ik maak er denk ik gewoon een weekendje van.
En ik heb me meteen maar ingezet voor Van Katoen. Want één van voortrekkers van dit project (de zeer getalenteerde Eloleo) vroeg mede-bloggers om een paar tassen te maken, zodat de winkel van Van Katoen geen plastic tassen hoeft te gebruiken. Ze had zelfs het patroon al uitgetekend. Da's dus een inkopper!
Normally I'm not the person to make new years resolutions. If you want to do something, then just go for it! Don't wait untill Januari first! But this year I have one. I want to go to Ghent. Ghent, Belgium. And why is that so interesting I hear you think (since Ghent is just around the corner for us Dutchies). But I am going to Ghent for a reason.
I am going there to visit Van Katoen. All benefits of this sewing event go to charity. There's workshops to take, fabrics and buttons to buy... seriously, no one needs to twist my arm to go. And Ghent is one of my favorite cities in Belgium, so I think I am gonna make a weekend out of it.
And I thought I might as well contribute. One of the biggest promoters for this event (the wonderfully talented Eloleo) asked bloggers to make some fabric shopping bags, so when people buy something at Van Katoen they don't have to use plastic bags. She even drew us the pattern. Easy peasy.

Happy new year everyone! Did you have a lovely new years' eve? I spent the night with my crazy, lovely friends and had a absolute blast. It was a lot of fun!
Normaal gesproken doe ik niet aan goede voornemens. Ik bedoel, als je iets wil doen, moet je het gewoon doen. Daarvoor hoef je niet te wachten tot 1 januari. Maar dit jaar neem ik me toch iets voor. Ik wil namelijk naar Gent. Nou ja, zul je denken, da's toch niet wereldschokkend... Gent is voor Nederlanders toch om de hoek? Klopt! Maar ik ga niet zo maar naar Gent.
Ik ga namelijk naar Van Katoen! Alle opbrengsten van deze dag in april gaan naar een goed doel. Dat alleen al is mooi, maar je kunt tijdens Van Katoen dus ook deelnemen aan allerlei workshops en mooie stofjes en knoopjes kopen. En het is in Gent (leuke stad!). Meer overreding heb ik niet nodig. Ik maak er denk ik gewoon een weekendje van.
En ik heb me meteen maar ingezet voor Van Katoen. Want één van voortrekkers van dit project (de zeer getalenteerde Eloleo) vroeg mede-bloggers om een paar tassen te maken, zodat de winkel van Van Katoen geen plastic tassen hoeft te gebruiken. Ze had zelfs het patroon al uitgetekend. Da's dus een inkopper!
Normally I'm not the person to make new years resolutions. If you want to do something, then just go for it! Don't wait untill Januari first! But this year I have one. I want to go to Ghent. Ghent, Belgium. And why is that so interesting I hear you think (since Ghent is just around the corner for us Dutchies). But I am going to Ghent for a reason.
I am going there to visit Van Katoen. All benefits of this sewing event go to charity. There's workshops to take, fabrics and buttons to buy... seriously, no one needs to twist my arm to go. And Ghent is one of my favorite cities in Belgium, so I think I am gonna make a weekend out of it.
And I thought I might as well contribute. One of the biggest promoters for this event (the wonderfully talented Eloleo) asked bloggers to make some fabric shopping bags, so when people buy something at Van Katoen they don't have to use plastic bags. She even drew us the pattern. Easy peasy.

Het is bijna gedaan, 2011. Nog een paar uur aftellen en dan begint het nieuwe jaar. Ik kan niet wachten en ben altijd vreselijk benieuwd naar wat zo'n nieuw jaar gaat brengen. Maar natuurlijk ben ik nog wel zo sentimenteel dat ik 2011 goed wil uitzwaaien.
It's almost over and done, 2011. Just a few more hours of count down and then it's the start of a new year. I always look forward to a new year and I'm always very curious to what it will bring. But of course I have to get sentimental first and say a proper goodbye to 2011.
Er is zo veel gebeurd in 2011! Ik ben deze blog gestart (ja, toch best belangrijk!), want ik wilde leren haken en naaien. Wat vaker iets dragen en cadeau geven wat zelf gemaakt is, in plaats van 'zo maar' alles in de winkel kopen. Ik zag zo veel leuke blogs met lieve (en grappige, vele van jullie zijn hilarisch) mensen, goede ideeën en prachtige creaties. Ik hoop dat mijn blogje iets kan bijdragen.
So much has happened in 2011. I started this blog (hey, kinda important!), 'cause I wanted to learn how to crochet and sew. So I could wear and give away handmade things instead of always buying things from a store. I saw so many great blogs from sweet (and funny, you guys are often hilarious) people, great ideas and gorgious creations. I hope my blittle blog will add something.
Ik leerde haken, gewoon met een biebboek, filmpjes op YouTube en één bol donkerblauwe wol en haaknaald 5. Inmddels zijn er héél wat bollen wol en katoen en haaknaalden bijgekomen!
I taught myself to crochet with the help of a book from the library, some movies on YouTube and one ball of navy blue wool and hook 5 mm. The crochet bug has definately bitten me and trust me, there's a lage number of yarn balls and crochet hooks now living with me.
Ik heb zelfs een aantal dekens gehaakt. Dat had ik dus echt nooit verwacht! Maar ik ben er wel blij mee. En ik prutste net zo lang, totdat ik wat haakpatronen met jullie kon delen.
I even got to finish some blankets! If you had told me that at the beginning of this year I wouldn't have believed you. But I did, several! Can you imagine. I am so happy with the results. I also crocheted so much that I was able to make some patterns to share with you.
Ik ging ook op naailes en kocht mijn eerste naaimachine. In het begin had ik vaak ruzie met mijn masjien (waarom heb ik toch steeds lussen aan de onderkant? Waarom loopt mijn draad steeds vast?), maar inmiddels zijn mijn Toyota en ik dikke vrienden en hebben we al best wat mooie dingen tot stand gebracht. Favoriet bij mij zijn tassen. Dat weten jullie inmiddels!
I also took sewing lessons and bought my first sewing machine! The machine and me didn't always get along in the beginning (why are there all these loops? Why does it keep eating my thread?) but we've gotten to know each other and I think me and my sewing machine have made some great stuff this year. For starters (as you know, my favorite...): bags, lots of bags.
Maar ik heb natuurlijk ook andere dingen genaaid. Het is gewoon te leuk om te doen.
But of course I've sewn other stuff too, it's just so nice to create all this stuff!
Maar ook op andere gebieden ging het erg goed! Ik houd ontzettend van reizen en heb dit jaar een aantal erg mooie landen mogen bezoeken: Kroatië en Turkije. Daarnaast ging ik voor mijn werk naar Brussel (zo gaaf) en maakte ik een reis naar Rome... dat was mijn huwelijksreis!
I was also fortunate enough to travel this year. I love to travel and I was so lucky to visit some amazing countries: Croatia and Turkey. I visited Brussels for work (totally awesome) and I made a trip to Rome... that was my honeymoon!
Ja! Een huwelijksreis! Want dit jaar vroeg mijn lief me ten huwelijk en zijn we getrouwd! In september. We hebben dit héél stiekem en klein aangepakt en ik vond het een heerlijke dag!
Yes, a honeymoon! My love proposed to me and we got married this year. In September. We had a really small wedding that not many people knew about. And I loved every second of it.
En mijn trouwjurk? Die kocht ik via Etsy! Lang leve creatieve mensen die ik via deze blog heb 'leren kennen'!
And my weddingdress? I bought that on Etsy! I just love all the fantastic, creative people I've 'met' because of this blog.
Nou, sentimenteel of sentimenteel (Kleenex moment!)? Rest mij nog één ding te zeggen: wat vind ik het leuk dat jullie mijn blog komen bezoeken en berichten achter laten, telkens weer. Fantastisch. Ik geniet er met volle teugen van. Ik blijf jullie (en alles wat jullie maken) trouw volgen in 2012.
Sentimental? Moi? (Should I pass around some Kleenex?). I just have one more thing to say: I just love that you guys keep visiting my blogs and leaving those sweet comments. It's fantastic. Thank you so much. I will continue to read your blogs and watch all your wonderful creations in 2012.

Als ik al die mooie etalages in de stad zie en de mooie kerstdecoraties op jullie blogjes, dan kom ik toch wel een beetje in de kerststemming, hoor. Helaas heb ik dit jaar geen vrij met kerst, maar ik wil toch wel wat kerst-achtigs doen. Weggeven, dat is best wel kerstachtig toch? Dus... een GIVE AWAY is dan meer dan op zijn plaats. WOOHOO! Het is inmiddels wel duidelijk, toch? Ik heb een tassenverslaving (ja, één van mijn vele verslavingen, maar vooruit...). Niet alleen heb ik een belachelijke hoeveelheid tassen in mijn bezit, maar nu ik met het naaimesjien overweg kan, vind ik het ook nog eens ontzettend leuk om ze te maken.
I guess you already noticed: I have a bag addiction (alright alright, one of my many addictions I confess). I have a ridiculous amount of bags at home and now that me and the sewingmachine are friends I also love making bags!
Telkens een stapje verder. Dus nu: een omkeerbare tas.
Every time I make a bag, I take it a step further. So here it is: a reversible tote bag!
Gemaakt van een schattig Laura Ashley stofje dat ik ooit eens oppikte bij de kringloop. Echt een mazzeltje. En weet je wat helemaal mazzel is? Deze en onderstaande tas maakte ik in opdracht voor iemand uit Zuid-Korea. Ongelofelijk toch! Het is een heel grappig idee dat twee mensen in Zuid-Korea straks met een tas van mij rondlopen.

The fact that these two bags were a custom order by someone from South-Korea! I just can't believe that someone from South-Korea will be using one of my bags.

Er waren 2 vriendinnen jarig (waaronder die vriendin die deze schitterende stoffen voor me meenam uit Amerika) en dat vroeg om cadeautjes. Wat ze graag wilden? En tas! Van mij! Nah, leuk! Het patroontje is van Cath Kidston, wat een schatjes hè. Ze waren er gelukkig erg blij mee.

Two of my friends celebrated their birthdays this week (the friend that brought back these fantastic fabrics from the US is one of them) and what would a birthday be without presents! I made these Cath Kidston bags for them. Cute, no? Luckily for me they were very happy with them.
