Robin Magazine #3 for sale!
donderdag 20 juni 2013
It's going to be a fabulous summer, I am so sure of it. It's almost summer holidays and what's more fun that to craft, read en relax during your free time in summer? Well, not a lot right? In that case, Robin Magazine is your thing!
In this issue of Robin Magazine you can just dream away. Our columnist Lien wrote a summer thriller called 'The hitch hiker', but you can also read the adventures of Freek and Claudia on the Trans Mongolia Express and Mooistestedentrips.nl gives you the best budget tips for city trips.
Some VIBs (very important bloggers, ha!) created some fabulous DIY's and tutorials for this issue of Robin Magazine. Miek (of ByMiekk) will teach you how to crochet a fabulous retro shopping bag and Annelies (from Vicarno's Mama) teaches you how to crochet a cosy for your sunglasses. But you can also find a sewing pattern, recipes and paper crafts in Robin Magazine. To make things easy, I am also selling Robin Magazine in my Etsy shop now. So, no more searching.

WIP Wednesday: one more week
woensdag 12 juni 2013
Making an entire magazine with just 3 peoples, that's tough. We knew that when we started this. But the third issue of Robin Magazine was a real challenge: busy with a fulltime job, busy with some education and oh wait... what was that thing calles a social life again? So, the fact that the third issue of Robin Magazine is for sale next week: it's pretty special.
I can honestly say that I spent every spare 15 minutes (and I didn't have enough of them unfortunately) in Robin Magazine 3. Interviews, features, figuing out recipes and food photography, making a sewing pattern... it looked like my house was exploded every once in a while! But, the magazine is there. Almost.
Spelletjes, lekker-lees-verhalen, DIY's, tutorials... Robin Magazine 3 staat er barstens vol mee. En helemaal in retro stijl!
But I have to say: Robin Magaizne 3 is so worth it. It has become an ultimate summer book and it's completely filled with lovely features to read, games, sewing and crochet tutorials and recipes. And all in retro style.
Are you curious? I bet you are. So wait just another week and then it will be in the shop. If you'd like to figure out where to buy Robin Magazine: check out this list of shops.

Eva en Anne
woensdag 3 april 2013
If you see the faces of these ladies, you just have to laugh. Don't you? I kow I do. These gals are Eva Libert en Anne Ruster from the website Eva & Anne which sells lovely paper goods. I interviewed them for Robin Magazine. If you've seen the new cover of Robin Magazine, you've probably seen them on there.
Even if you have a completely different background, it doesn't mean you can't be a great couple in business. These two friends prove that. Anne was a legal advisor and Eva a graphic designer when a mutual friend decided the two had to meet. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Well, if you see the lovely designs by these ladies. You really get why we wanted to have a chat with them for the magazine. The hint of retro and those sparkly colours. They just made us extremely happy. You can read the entire interview with Eva & Anne in Robin Magazine - We Love Paper.

We love paper (and a question)
donderdag 28 maart 2013
Kris en Marjolein mailden me 's ochtend ongerust.
It was snowing when we had the photoshoot for the new cover of Robin Magazine, bacj in January. Traffic in The Netherlands was horrible that day. Huge traffic jams and delays of hours and hours. Kris and Marjolein e-mailed me in the morning, worried. Would I make it? Wasn't I afraid to get into the car? 'Cause I would take the pics that day. I looked outside and saw huge snowflakes. But I decided: no pain, no glory. So I got into the car and drove east (rather quickly actually, hardly any taffic jams). We were taking pics at a shop called Quip&Co. This shop sells fabulous industrial design furniture and we were allowed to use everything in the shop. It was fantastic.
And now it's almost Easter. When I step outside, it's still freezing. In parts of The Netherlands it's still snowing. It seems like nothin really changed since we had the ice cold photoshoot back in Jauary. But so much happened since then. We took this picture and were immediately in love. The colours, cute items and the whole atmosphere. Everything fell into place. It's retro and happy looking, but it also has a rough edge (those wh know us, know that we're not ladies with an extreme 'sweet' taste). We found out that we loved the colours so much that they can be found in the entire magazine. And that's why Robin Magazine 2 (We love paper) has that warm, sunny feeling. Spring won't be long now, I'm sure.

Only one more week
zondag 24 maart 2013
Just one more week. Then the new Robin Magazine is in the shops again! I hope our dear readers didn't have to wait too long for the new issue to come along. For us the time went very fast, but that's always the case when you're working so hard on something.
The second issue of Robin Magazine has the theme 'We love Paper'. I think that goes without saying when you make a magazine. Right! We have great features about all things paper, like pen pals, snail mail, Round Robin projects and keeping a journal. And of course, all kinds of DIY's when it comes to paper. But of course we also didn't forget our loyal readers that love to crochet and cook.
So starting next Saturday, March 30th, Robin Magazine is for sale again, for example at ByKris.nl, but you can see all the shops that sell Robin Magazine on the website.

Two year blogging Give Away
donderdag 14 februari 2013
I was very shy when I entered the world of blogging two years ago. I quietly said hello, didn't make eye contact, sat in a corner, was to shy to post pictures and thought and thought and thought before even writing a new blog post. That was me two years ago and look where I am today!
I cannot believe what those two years of blogging have brought me. I was recognised at a few events I went to ('Hey, you're Happy in Red'... hilarious), am now a writer for a creative magazine and I have my own Etsy shop. If you would have told me this would happen two years ago, I would have laughed at you. And that why it's time for a Give Away!
And because my blog is two today, I give away things in pairs. 'Cause all good things come in pairs today. I give away to sets of pressies, that each have two presents that represent two things I love. This first set represents paper and crochet. Paper, because it's the new theme of the second issue of Robin Magazine. So this set has two large crocheted cotton coasters for your cup of hot chocolate or tea and a large notebook with blank pages for your thoughts or crafts.
The second give away set is about my two loves paper and sewing. Recognise the hot water bottle cover? I've written a tutorial for it! And now you can win it! Because it's winter and you really just want to be on the couch or in bed, reading a book, warming your ice cold feet against your warm water bottle. You know you want to! And the other item is a Moleskine notebook. So cool and classy, very firm and small enough to take a long in your purse.

Little relaxation
maandag 4 februari 2013
10
From the moment my alarm goes off in the morning, I am working on five things at the same time. All great and exciting things. Of course I am busy writing and photographing for Robin Magazine, but I also have some other lovely writing assignments lined up. This makes me a very happy, but busy person.

Even pauze nemen, daar moet ik mezelf altijd echt toe dwingen.
A break, I really have to force myself to take one. Sometimes it happens that I find out at four o'clock in the afternoon that I completely forgot to have lunch. So I needed to come up with a trick to take a break. So every four hours (just like at the office) I take a break, eat something and take up the hook. Today I made these two large granny squares for charity. So even on break I am quite productive!
Schavuit.
Sleepover cat couldn't care less though. She was mostly very annoyed by the fact that I didn't sit still long enough for her to curl up on my lap. So she found herself a nice spot for a nap. In my crochet spot, that is! Silly beast.
Robin Magazine: an ice cold covershoot
dinsdag 15 januari 2013
Let me tell you something about magazines. It takes a while before an issue is out. Did you guys know that Hollands most read womens magazine starts planning its summer issue in December. So when everyone is freezing their arse off they're actually talking bikinis and cocktails? And that they're talking about Christmas decoration and what to serve for Christmas dinner when I'm watching the Tour de France? It's true. And since we're getting more professional over at Robin Magazine, we're also planning ahead. Like my mum says: those who rule the world, plan ahead. Ain't that the truth. And that's why today, while the entire country was covered in at leat 5 inches of snow if was driving to the Veluwe to do the cover shoot for the second issue of Robin Magazine. This issue will be for sale in April. We will rule.
And just like the first time when we had the covershoot, it looked like we owned a thrift store when I arrived. Marjolein and Kris brought so much great paper related things. The theme of the new issue is paper and you can think of so much things paper related: writing letters, snailmail, post crossing, round robin projects, drawing and writing vintage postcards. But like in the first issue we'll also have fun stuff for crocheters and other creative peeps.
We we schlepping around gorgious vintage and industrial furniture and it looked good. We agreed pretty soon on what we should do and how things should look. The colors, atmosphere and accessories. It all made sense. That was quite a good feeling!
We were allowed to use all the wonderful industrial furniure from the Quip & Co store ánd shoot in the store itsself, which is such a great place. If you're ever in Holland, see if you can squeeze in a visit to this place. But you can also check their website. On the cover of the first issue of Robin Magazine we already featured a chais of Quip & Co (the orange one!) and today we used more lovelies from the store. We were so happy we were able to do this and we had a lot of fun.
It's quite the count down to April, but of course I'll keep you up to date with all the progress we're making. You can also check out the website of Robin Magazine (just use Google Translate) 'cause that's where we share fun DIY ideas and the best pins.

New challenges
vrijdag 4 januari 2013
So I have started the year with a new challenge. A Robin Magazine challenge, that's why I can't show too much. One thing I did know: this challenge, so not my thing at all. But I am going to do it. Breathing in, breathing out. I put some things and thoughts to paper. 'Cause paper is the new theme of Robin Magazine no.2.
I started the challenge with a message: free your mind. Free your mind from worries and negative people. Especially 'But' people. People who say 'but' to your new plans. 'But, there are also down sides to what you want/ you will still have bad days you know/ you won't earn so much money anymore...'. People think that telling you 'but' to what you want to do is helpful, that it will keep you from being dissapointed, but it's quite the opposite. People telling you 'but' are actually quite hurtful 'cause they're keeping you back. It's their fear that they want to put on you. Their fears, not yours! So free your mind from them, even if it's hard. Think about your goals and the way you want to succeed. And go for it!
(This is of course a pep talk to myself, but you can use it. I don't mind).
Kind of hard to see what this is huh? It's about me and my travel bug. Whenever I travel somewhere I learn new things. About different people, new countries, the food, the language. But most of all, when I travel I learn about me. That I have to be patient, 'cause in many countries they don't live by the clock, like I do. That I can surprise myself, like when I figured out the NYC subway all by myself and that it helped me to discover the wonderful city in a few days. Travel is like therapy, but with much better food.
And I made something about myself and the dream me and my husband have for the future. Something we've been thinking about for a while now and we hope to accomplish in a few years time... It's kinda nice to put these things onto paper and not in a way that I am used to, writing, but in a way that's completely out of my comfort zone. I can highly recommend it.

A Robin Magazine Christmas surprise
donderdag 20 december 2012
Helemaal mee eens! Dus vorige week hebben we ons even héél druk gemaakt. En het is gelukt.
At the moment we're working quite hard on the 2nd issue of Robin Magazine. The theme of the second issue will be: paper. I'll let you fantastise what all that can be! We're busy planning features, DIYs and the layout. In April the second issue will be in stores. Very exciting. But seriously, April. That's a long wait. That wouldn't do. So Marjolein said last week that it would be fun to make a mini-Christmas issue of Robin Magazine. What a great plan! So we were very busy last week making it happen, but we did it.
I went to many many supermarkets last week and I cooked up a storm. 'Cause Christmas without good food, isn't quite Christmas now is it? This yummy dish with deer made it as a main course for the magazine.
Easy does it, so gezegd.
And this is the entree. A really nice shrimp cocktail that is so easy to prepare. 'Cause I think that there's no fun in it if you have to be in the kitchen all day whilst your family is enjoying themselves, playing games and chatting. So why make it too difficult for yourself. And this dish is so tasty that you wouldn't even know that it's so easy to make.
These cookies are not exactly 'light', but seriously... what is during Christmas? I've had them pretasted by a very chosy audience (my husbands colleagues) and they really liked them. You can eat these cookies as a dessert or with a cup of coffee.

But the recipes are only a small part of the magazine. 'Cause like you may expect from us, you can also find really great DIY's, tutorials, products and book reviews in this magazine.
Open publication - Free publishing - More crafting
And the best part is: this Christmas issue of Robin Magazine is completely FREE! So you can just read this and download it of you like. There are some great DIY's and free printables in there, so go ahead: download and print.
About a great book: Wereldeters
vrijdag 2 november 2012
Waren jullie gemakkelijke eters, toen jullie klein waren?
Did you guys were fussy eters when you were a child? When it came to food, I never drew my mom mental. I basically ate everything, I still do. I'm just not fond of cheese, coconut and sauerkraut. And I have a thing against spicy food. That's such a shame as my dad cooks fabulous Indonesian food. But not every child is that easy about food. My sis was, and still is, a very fussy eater.
'Nooit meer lust ik niet' (Never again: I don't like this). That's the title I gave the interview I had with writer Marjolein de Vlaam for Robin Magazine. She thought about this great concept about how you can convince your kids to try food from all around the world. When I had the interview with her Marjolein admitted that she came up with the book because of her own kids. They refused to taste any dish that they didn't knew. The admosphere at the table was bad. So Marjolein came with a solution.
Whenever she put a new dish in fron of her kids, she told them about the country it came from and told then fun facts about the people living there. And it worked! Her ideas, stories and fun facts became her book 'Wereldeters' ('Eaters of the world') so that parents are now also able to play the same game with their kids whenever they eat a foreign dish.
Leuk toch!
And what's better than cutting and pasting things (or so think the adults working at Robin Magazine) and luckily, 'Wereldeters' agrees. Together with the book there's a passport where kids can put a sticker whenever the tried a new dish.
And do children have to like all food? No way, Marjolein assured me. But shoe does think it's important that kids try everyting once. And I have to agree on that. I mean, it has made me the food-lover I am today. I like oisters and cabbage, and pumpkins oup and dim sum. No problem!
The whole interview the Dutch speaking amongst you can read in Robin Magazine. It's a very inspiring story about a woman who thought about a solution for a problem that many parents have. If you want to read more about Wereldeters, you can check out the website!

For all those foodies and lovers of Robin Magazine

Grinnik...
When we were making Robin Magazine, we saw so many gorgious dishes passing by: walnut cake, cookies, pumpkin soup, snack... And there were great dishes IRL as well, 'cause we wanted to take lovely pactures of all that glorious food too. Seriously, it's a miracle we didn't gain 30 kilos when we were making the magazine...
En by the way...
Laat het ons vooral even weten.
The last few weeks I got some questions about the magazine and for the Dutchies I hope In answered them here. Most English speaking people like to know if there's any use for them to buy a Dutch magazine. I'll be honest, of course the majority of all content of the magazine is written in Dutch. But, the design of the magazine is really good. So if you like nice design, it may be worth it for you. Also, we have some step to step tutorials (like a sewing pattern) and some other DIY things that you'll understand without knowing any Dutch. Robin Magazine is also available on Etsy.
And important things now: the results of the cookbook Give Away!
Winners, please e-mail me! And if you didn't win, keep on follwing me anyway... 'cause I have this hunch that with the holidays coming, another Give Away may appear soon enough. Just saying.

Maybe you guys noticed, but I love food. I seriously blame my genes. My gran on my fathers side had a serious sweet tooth, that I inherited. My mums side of the family loves dining and food in the broadest sense of the word. And me, I love to cook.
That's why I loved working in Robin Magazine so much. It has 'food' as a theme and it's so inspirational. The recipes in it are beautiful and very easy to prepare. Tasty ánd easy to prepare you say? I'm there!
Lachen toch? Dus wip effe langs ;-)
When working on Robin Magazine I felt like I was working non a cook book, and that was fabulous. I love cook books and I have plenty of them. What you see on the pic is just a small selection. So I thought... let's inspire people to cook and do a little Give Away! I have a small selection of really nice English cook books that I love, but now... I'll part with one of them and you can be the lucky winner!
So, what to do?
1) Since Robin Magazine is a Dutch magazine. I don't suppose you've bought it? But if you have, please let me know! (This will earn you lots of kudos) Post it on your blog and let me know!! Also, tell me your favorite cuisine!
2) Did you know I am also on Facebook these days? Yes I am! So while you're at it: hop over and give me a 'like'.
I'll announce a winner in Sunday! And if you're curious about the magazine, it's for sale right over here! And if you don't speak Dutch, that's okay! The magazine is full with great DIY that have step to step pics! Robin Magazine is for sale here.

Party! Robin Magazine... The Launch
zondag 14 oktober 2012
En daar lag het dan ineens. Naast de kassa, van een schitterende boekhandel. Gisterenavond hadden we onze lancering.
And there it was, our magazine. On the counter of a gorgious book store. Yesterday evening we had the launch party of Robin Magazine. And man, are we proud! The sweet co-owner of the shop held a little speach that was all about Dreaming, Daring and Doing. I guess there is a lot of truth in there. 'Cause well, we did it! But maybe more importantly, it was a fantastic evening.
We were completely flabbergasted by all the people who came to our launch. There were loads of people, whoe literally drove hours and hours from all corners of The Netherlands to see Robin Magazine get launched. It moved me, so much. Their wordsof praise meant so much to us. I mean, when you're in the middle of making a magazine you just hope people will like it and it was amazing to hear that people did like it.
And there were two workshops as well: creating travelling notebooks and making your own stamps. The tables were full all evening and everyone was so enthusiastic. It was amazing to see.
Geweldig toch?
And it all started with this. Round Robin Travelling Notebooks. Marjolein and Kris founded the Round Robin Travelling Notebooks in The Netherlands and were completely blown away by all the amazing things people were making that they were convinced it needed their own magazine. And the magazine is here today!!
And because our first theme of the magazine was 'food', the food at the party was YUM and all homemade. Some goodies we, the editors, made ourselves, but also the people who contributed to the magazine brought the food made from their own recipes. So yummy. At the end of the night, there was not a crumb left. A very good sign.
Maybe a little sentimental, but I'd just like to thank everyone who posted something sweet and supporting about Robin Magazine over the last few weeks. Kris, Marjolein and me worked so hard on something we truely believe in. It's fabulous to know that you guys believe in is. Thank you.

Finally, finally... for sale!
woensdag 10 oktober 2012
Kris was biting her nails for days, Marjolein thought of such cool Give Aways on the new website and me? I was writing press releases, content for the website and writing for the newsletter. But I also was biting my nails. I so wanted it to be there. I so wanted it to come from the printers... and now it's here. The FIRST issue of Robin Magazine is FOR SALE!
We are, maybe that sounds a bit weird, very relieved. 'Cause it looks exactly like we hoped it would. You see, we have never made a magazine before, so we had no idea if what was in our heads would also come true on paper. But it did. We ordered loads, so now you guys go ahead! Maybe it's good to know that the magazine is in Dutch, but there are also DIYs in the magazine that are also quite doable if you don't speak Dutch. Just so you know ;-)
There are loads of recipes in the magazine, like this one! Isn't it wonderfully creative, it makes me want to run into the kitchen and start cooking. This was one of the first recipes that was sent to us and we like it a lot and there are many more like these in the magazine.

I was up and running again today. Oh man, was I sick of being sick. I do feel a lot better than earlier this week, although you wouldn't say that when you hear my voice or see my pale face. But, it's a fact. I am back.
The Mr. was also rather pleased I was up and about again. We went to the market today and while we were at it, we had some lunch at a place also called 'The Market', which is around the corner from (yep, you guessed it) the actualt market.
Jum! Oh, en hele gave tegeltjes natuurlijk.
So sorry to all the veggies, but I always get really excited when I see good meats, salamis and garlic on a string. Yum! Oh, and love the tiles as well.

De Markt restaurant is actually an Italian style place that serves all things yummy that an Italian market has to offer. Because I always have a hard time picking something from the regular menu (choices, choices!) we ordered a platter for 2 full of good stuff: marinated shrimp, bruchetta, filled olives, veal, grilled eggplant and zucchini... all só good!
Oh, so this food definately made me feel good again. And you know what: people have reacted so positive towards the new magazine me and two other creative ladies (Robin Magazine) are putting together. Now that's heart warming too! Next Saturay we're organising a big launch party for the magazine and I am sooo excited. Hopefully I'll be able to assist the other two gals a bit more this week!
Happy weekend everyone!
